West Brom are watching Benfica centre-back Lisandro Lopez and the Argentine is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League.
Albion sent a scout to watch Lopez on Tuesday night as Benfica drew 1-1 with Besiktas in their opening Champions League group match at the Stadium of Light.
The 27-year-old defender was linked to the Baggies in late August as head coach Tony Pulis pushed to bring in new recruits, but he remained in Portugal when the transfer window closed.
Reports claimed he was keen on a move to England and could have been available for just £4million – which seems a snip considering his experience and age.
Lopez has won back-to-back Portuguese titles with Benfica and was part of the side that reached the Champions League quarter-finals last season.
Scouts from Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Southampton and West Ham were also in attendance on Tuesday.
