Newcastle are among the clubs showing an interest in Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, who could be on the move this summer.
Newcastle’s defensive record has been appalling this season, with only rock bottom Aston Villa conceding more this season, and it is an area that will need improvement over the summer.
Much will depend on what league the Magpies find themselves in next season, but reports in the Portuguese press claim that Newcastle scouts have been checking out Lindelof with a view to making a swoop.
The 21-year-old Swedish international has impressed since breaking into the Benfica side in the second half of the season and host of top clubs including Paris Saint-Germain and AS Roma are also said to be keen.
The link to Lindelof comes just 24 hours after reports suggested Brighton defender Lewis Dunk is also a target for the Magpies.
