BBC’s John Inverdale branded sexist as Andy Murray forced to remind him women exist too

John Inverdale was interviewing tennis star Andy Murray, who clinched gold at Rio, praising the star after he defended his mens singles title.

The BBC presenter congratulated him for becoming the first person to win two Olympics golds in tennis, which drew confusion from the world no 2.

The 29-year-old quickly reminded Mr Inverdale of the existence of the Williams sisters in the post-match interview, following his win over Argentina’s Juan Martin Del Potro in a demanding four-hour final.

He said: “Venus and Serena have won four each.”
