Liverpool look set to lose out to Premier League rivals Manchester City in the race for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Reports claim City are close to agreeing a £20million deal to sign the goalkeeper from the La Liga champions this summer, meaning one of Jurgen Klopp’s top transfer targets will not in all likelihood be making the move to Anfield.
The German, who has said several times recently that he wants to play regular first-team football after having to settle for being Barca’s Copa del Rey and Champions League keeper this season, is expected to make the move to the Etihad to team up with incoming boss Pep Guardiola.
Klopp had identified the 23-year-old as the perfect man to compete with the inconsistent Simon Mignolet as the Reds’ number one and it was believed the former Borussia Monchengladbach man was open to the idea of a move to Merseyside, with Klopp’s German links thought to be key.
However, a switch to City now looks on the cards, where Ter Stegen will then hope to push Joe Hart for a regular starting role next season.
