West Ham are being linked with a double swoop on Barcelona with bids for defensive duo Thomas Vermaelen and Marc Bartra this summer.
The Hammers are hoping to use current Barca midfielder Alex Song’s influence to persuade Vermaelen and Bartra to join him at the club.
Spanish centre-back Bartra is unhappy at the Catalan club due to his lack of regular first-team action and would welcome a switch to the Premier League as he is behind Gerard Pique, Javier Mascherano and Jeremy Mathieu in the pecking order at the Nou Camp.
Manchester City’s incoming boss Pep Guardiola is also said to be interested in Bartra and they could compete with the Hammers for his signature this summer.
Former Arsenal defender Vermaelen, meanwhile, has also emerged as a possible target for West Ham boss Slaven Bilic.
The Belgium international has managed just 16 starts since his move from the Gunners in 2014 due to ongoing injury problems and Barca may decide he can move on at the end of the campaign.
