Ben Foster claims West Brom’s record £12million signing Salomon Rondon is looking like a bargain after his winner at Crystal Palace.
The Baggies goalkeeper was delighted with the Venezuela international hitman’s performance and goal in the side’s 1-0 Premier League opening day win at Selhurst Park on Saturday.
Rondon arrived 12 months ago in a £12million deal but initially struggled to find his feet in England, before ending the campaign well.
He enjoyed a successful summer with his country in the Copa America and his winning strike at the weekend means he has now scored in his last three games for Albion.
Foster told the Express & Star: “Hopefully we’ll see the best of Solo this season.
“As soon as he signed we knew what we had. You could see in training he’s a big lad.
“He probably needed to work on his fitness a little bit at the start and middle of last season, but he’s obviously done a lot in the summer and come back as fit as a fiddle.
“He was in the Copa America in the summer and kept himself in great shape.
“He probably only had a week or 10 days holiday, so fair play to the lad, he’s come back and looked hungry as well.”
Albion are looking at bringing in more new faces with a £30million bid for Christian Benteke being mooted and Foster claims the fee paid out for Rondon is now proving to be a real bargain.
He added: “Nowadays the money being splashed about, especially on front players, is astronomical. I think £12million is a snip at the moment.”
