Liverpool striker Christian Benteke is a surprise reported summer transfer target for Premier League rivals West Brom.
The 25-year-old Belgium international only moved to Anfield on a five-year deal last summer in a £32.5million switch from Aston Villa, but he has fallen out of favour on Merseyside since Jurgen Klopp was drafted in to replace the sacked Brendan Rodgers in October.
Benteke has only managed eight goals so far for Liverpool, but his impressive record at Villa in the past will no doubt see several clubs look to snap him up if he is made available in the summer.
And reports are suggesting that West Brom boss Tony Pulis would like to take him back to the Midlands as a possible replacement for Saido Berahino, who could finally be granted his wish to leave the Hawthorns for pastures new.
Premier League title-chasers Tottenham have been heavily linked with a swoop for the 22-year-old and could reignite their interest, with Albion almost certain to sell Berahino this time around.
Berahino’s fellow forward Victor Anichebe is also poised to leave the club, as he is approaching the end of his contract, so Pulis will be keen to bring in a big-name forward to partner current record signing Salomon Rondon next season.
Whether Benteke would be willing to move to West Brom remains to be seen, while he will no doubt now get a chance to attract bigger clubs in Liverpool’s remaining games, with Divock Origi set to be absent for the rest of the season because of ankle ligament damage.
