West Brom Under-21 boss Jimmy Shan expects Tuesday’s derby with Wolves to have “extra spice” as his side must win to get back on track.
The Baggies’ development squad were unbeaten after nine matches, but a run of eight games without a win has seen them drop to fifth in the U21s Premier League Division 2 table.
His young charges get a chance to kickstart their promotion push against their local rivals on Tuesday night at The Hawthorns.
“We drew 0-0 at Molineux earlier in the season and the game didn’t really have that added spice, it was just a good game of football,” Shan said.
“You would think that looking at this one as a derby game, it would have that extra spice to it especially with it being such an important one for us.
“We have spoken before about how crucial it is to start winning games again with just five matches left to play this season.
“It’s disappointing to have dropped to our lowest position in the table that we have been all year.
“We need the victory to maintain our play-off challenge and push for promotion.”
