Kodjia, who hit 19 goals for Aston Villa last term, has been sidelined with an ankle injury since April.
The 27-year-old will step up his comeback by playing 45 minutes against Southampton’s Under-23s tomorrow.
He could then feature on the bench against Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.
But when asked about throwing Kodjia back into action, Bruce replied: “Yes but I need to be cautious.
“Of course we would love him to be back but at the end of the day he’s had a fractured ankle so it’s important for him on Monday night to get through 45 minutes.
“If he gets through that U23 game with Southampton then that puts him in contention for Tuesday night.”
