Dortmund thrash Madrid
Wednesday April 24 2013: Borussia Dortmund 4 – Real Madrid 1 (Lewandowski 8, 50, 66, pen 67; Ronaldo 43)
If you hadn’t heard of Jurgen Klopp before, after this game you most certainly had.
The Champions League semi-final pitted the sides against each other for the third time in a season and what had threatened in the previous two encounters finally happened: Dortmund overran them.
Lewandowski was the star of the show, beating Pepe and goalkeeper Diego Lopez to a cross in the 8th minute to take the lead.
Ronaldo equalised before the break when Madrid broke away at pace, but in the second half it was one-way traffic.
Twice they were slow to react in the box and Lewandowski capitalised to complete his hat-trick before Xabi Alonso bundled over Reus and the Polish striker all but ended the tie as a contest.
Klopp 2, Mourinho 0, draw 1
