Arsene Wenger silences critics as Arsenal thrash Hull to reach FA Cup quarter-finals

“I believe this club has been in much worse positions than it is today.”

Captain Mertesacker was forced off with a cut eye in the first half and Gabriel and Ramsey followed him in the second half.

When asked about the defensive crisis, Wenger added: “We lost two centre-backs in the game and that’s not easy to cope with. But Ramsey’s thigh injury looks the most serious.”

Giroud ended a 11-game goal drought lasting and celebrated his opening strike with team-mates as if he was cradling a baby.

Wenger said: “Giroud became a father of a young boy last night, so that gave him some euphoria, and it was good for Walcott to score as well.”
