Asked if a record-extending 13th triumph in football’s most famous domestic knockout competition would satisfy the supporters, Wenger smiled before conceding it was highly unlikely.

The Frenchman, 66, said: “Look, it’s never enough. As long as you don’t win everything, it’s never enough.

“When we didn’t win anything they said, ‘You didn’t even win the FA Cup’. People will always want more, which is normal – and it’s what we want as well.

“I have not created human beings. That is God – if he exists. He didn’t make us perfect so we live with that. Even in paradise, Adam wasn’t happy!

“I honestly never believed I was God. What can I do? It is a perception of other people. It is a judgment. That creates belief. Is it right or wrong? I don’t know.

“All I know is that I give my best for this club and try to make sure my team do the same. After that it’s not down to me.”
