Arsenal’s Jamie Vardy humiliation can’t detract from Arsene Wenger’s biggest task

However when you consider Arsenal’s best performances last season (Man United, Leicester, Bayern Munich and Everton) were when they played with the pacy Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck, it’s clear a more counter attacking approach is something Wenger wants to implement, hence the move for Vardy.

The sole positive from this protracted saga is that Wenger can move on and focus on the task of bringing in a striker to challenge Olivier Giroud.

Last season’s struggles in front of goal and Welbeck’s unfortunate injury means Wenger has to sign a new forward with the pace to play on the counter attack and also have the intelligence and guile to be the difference against packed defences.
