Arsenal have edged ahead of Juventus in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund playmaker Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to reports in Italy.
The Gunners are under pressure to splash the cash this summer following a disappointing Premier League campaign and have now firmed up their interest in the Armenian star.
According to Tutto Mercato, Arsenal have held preliminary talks with Dortmund and Mkhitaryan’s agent over a £23m deal and look set to stave off competition from Juventus and Chelsea.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed another impressive campaign for Dortmund, scoring 18 goals in 45 appearances for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Dortmund, who have already sealed a place in next season’s Champions League, had hoped to keep hold of the attacking midfielder for one more year but Arsenal’s £23m offer appears to have changed their minds.
