Arsenal transfer news: Gunners set to battle it out with Roma for Villarreal defender Mateo Musacchio
The Argentine international missed the first half of the 2015/16 campaign as he recovered from a horrific leg injury he sustained in April 2015 but he made a big impact upon his return, helping the club to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
His performances in La Liga and the Europa League caught the attention of scouts from Arsenal and Roma and the two clubs are set to battle for his signature this summer, according to Calcio Mercato.
The report claims Roma were frontrunners to land the 25-year-old but Arsenal are now trying to seek contact with Musacchio’s agent ahead of a proposed bid.
Muscacchio, whose contract in Spain expires in 2018, joined Villarreal from River Plate in 2009 and has made over 200 appearances for the Yellow Submarine.
