Arsenal almost pulled the plug on Joel Campbell’s loan to Sporting Lisbon at the 11th hour, according to reports in Portugal.
The winger completed his move to the Primeira Liga side on Sunday after agreeing to join them for the upcoming season.
However, according to Portuguese newspapers A Bolo and O Jogo, Arsenal almost cancelled the move in the final moments.
Negotiations are said to have become close to falling apart as talks over what percentage of the player’s wages would be paid were discussed.
However, in the end, both parties were able to come to an agreement and Campbell has now linked up with his new team-mates.
In addition, originally it had been reported that the Costa Rican’s loan contained an option for Sporting to buy him outright next summer for £8.6million – but that has reportedly been removed.
