Santi Cazorla says he hopes he can stay at Arsenal but claims to be in the dark on whether the club plan to offer him a new deal.
The 31-year-old has become a firm fans’ favourite at the Emirates Stadium since joining from Malaga in 2012 but faces an uncertain future with his current contract set to expire at the end of this season.
The Spaniard is therefore looking to prove himself this term having missed much of the last campaign through injury and has made a strong start, scoring twice in six Premier League games.
Despite seemingly still being part of Arsene Wenger’s team, Cazorla claims the club have not been in contact regarding a new deal, although he remains optimistic he will eventually sign an extension.
“No, I don’t have any news from the club regarding a new contract,” the Spaniard told Cadena Sur. “My focus now is on playing and to be able to enjoy playing football following a season when I had lots of injury problems.
“I hope I can stay here and continue to play. I am happy here. What a player wants is to play and to feel important.”
