The former Borussia Monchengladbach man has incredibly racked up eight red cards in just two years and six months.
His sending off for an ill-judged challenge on Swansea‘s Mo Barrow on Saturday was his first at the Emirates, adding to six in his time with Monchengladbach and one with the Switzerland national team.
In the same time period, no other player competing in England, France, Spain, Italy or Germany’s top flights have seen red as often.
Xhaka’s dismissal at home to Swansea was his second straight red – the first being in another 3-2 win, for Monchengladbach at home to Darmstadt last December.
In that match he kicked out at Peter Niemeyer, who was trying to race past him, and was promptly sent off for violent conduct.
All of his other sending offs have been for two bookable offences – including a pair late on in last month’s World Cup qualifier against European champions Portugal, which the Swiss won 2-0.
The midfield ace has 66 career yellows too, so it is clear he needs to work on his discipline if he isn’t to cost Arsenal in big games!
