Arsenal have named Per Mertesacker as the new captain, someone who won’t be able to play for the club for a while due to injury.
However, manager Arsene Wenger thinks the defender is the ‘natural’ choice to replace Mikel Arteta as skipper.
“Per is a very respected figure in the dressing room, is loved as well and is also a very demanding figure. I think it is absolutely natural to be [him],” Wenger told the Arsenal website.
In the defender’s absence, though, the boss said his experienced players like Santi Cazorla, Laurent Koscielny and Petr Cech will fill in.
Some Gooners think the club should have just given the armband to one of those players in the first place and also threw Aaron Ramsey’s name into the frame.
