While Gonzalo Higuain transfer saga might drag for sometime long as Arsenal will have to pay slightly over the odds of their valuation; the club is looking for other options and one of them is Benfica’s supremely gifted winger Nicolas Gaitan.
It is understood that Gaitan has a release clause of €45m but according to several reports in Portugal, Benfica could accept offers ranging between €25-30m for the Argentine midfielder.
Gaitan, who was also heavily linked with Manchester United in the past is keen to make a switch in England, though there has been offers for him from Italy and Spain as well.
Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis insisted recently that the club is now ready to compete with other European heavy weights and that manager Arsene Wenger will be given a transfer war-chest to bring in quality players at the Emirates.
The 25-year-old has scored 14 goals for Benfica since joining the club in 2010 but it is his creativity (13 assists this season) that has earned him huge reputation throughout Europe.
