Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is reported to be weighing up a move for River Plate and Argentina defender Gabriel Mercado.
Klopp is looking to bolster his defence after Kolo Toure was among the players released by the Reds boss last week, and Mercado has emerged as a target.
The 29-year-old can play at full-back, in central defence or in midfield and his versatility is a big attraction for Klopp, who is said to be working on a deal to bring him to Anfield.
The Liverpool boss was present at Argentina’s Copa America Centenario game against Chile on Tuesday, and Mercado is reported to have been to target.
Klopp is keen to revamp his squad over the summer and defence is an area he is keen to bolster, with a whole host of players, including Leicester’s Ben Chilwell, said to be on his wanted list.
