Sunderland legend Julio Arca says boss Sam Allardyce will lead the side to a comfortable Premier League finish next season.
The Black Cats have made a desperate fight against the drop an annual occurrence at the Stadium of Light but Arca believes in Allardyce they have the man to put a stop to that.
Arca was part of the side that finished seventh in the Premier League under Peter Reid, Sunderland’s best ever finish, and he sees similarities between the two bosses.
He told the club’s website: “If you look back it’s the same kind of school that they come from – Sam Allardyce and Peter Reid.
“Last season they finished well but the last thing Sunderland fans want to do is go through that again. It’s been happening for the last three or four seasons and it’s very frustrating.
“When you see all the support from the fans – every time they play at home it’s a full house – so of course it’s frustrating.
“But towards the end of the season they played really well, they fought for each other and obviously there was a big influence from the manager.
“I’m sure that he’s going to get the team right. He’s probably going to bring new players because they do need to get stronger in different positions.
“But I’m looking forward to seeing Sunderland being comfortable in the Premier League this season.”
