Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed Dele Alli has been ill for most of the week which is why he didn’t start against Palace.
The England midfielder started the opening match against Everton last week, but was surprisingly left out of the team in the 1-0 victory over the Eagles.
Alli came on in the second half as Spurs eventually broke down their opponents, courtesy of Victor Wanyama’s header.
The Spurs boss admitted Alli had not been feeling well in the build up to the game, but concedes he may need to manage him better with Tottenham preparing for a Champions League campaign.
Pochettino said: “Dele Alli had some problems – he was ill for three days this week and not 100%.
“We have a lot of games with the Champions League this season and we have to manage them to be in a better condition for the season.”
