Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce is said to be the only Englishman who has a chance of becoming the next manager of the national team.
FA chief executive Martin Glenn, vice-chairman David Gill and technical director Dan Ashworth are the men charged with finding the new England manager after the departure of Roy Hodgson following a miserable effort in France.
Others have been linked with a temporary role such as Gareth Southgate and Glenn Hoddle but Allardyce is apparently seen as the only Englishman with the right credentials to take the post.
Allardyce is thought to be keen on the post having been overlooked in favour of Steve McClaren following Sven-Goran Eriksson’s departure from the post in 2006.
