West Brom have reportedly upped their bid for Sporting Lisbon striker Islam Slimani to £21m – which could smash their transfer record.
But the Baggies are understood to be still some way short of the Portuguese club’s £26m asking price for the Algeria international.
Slimani is in demand after smashing 56 goals in 107 games for Sporting over the last three years with a number of Premier League clubs currently showing an interest.
Everton and Swansea City are also keen on the 28-year-old forward, who is under contract in Portugal until 2020.
Albion head coach Tony Pulis is targeting a new striker to play alongside Salomon Rondon, Albion’s current record signing, and has also been linked with a move for Liverpool frontman Christian Benteke.
