But he revealed Souare’s team-mates have rallied round to support him.

He added: “I do not want to say too much about the incident because I am not clear of the details.

“It was such a quick incident. I think a car pulled in front of him and he had very little time to react

“He has having some bad news with his father, who is seriously sick. Maybe that was on his mind. He is not having the best of times. We are all very supportive of him. We love Pape. We cannot wait to see him back.

“He is a bit embarrassed because his jaw is big. In all seriousness, it was a serious incident.

“We are thankful to all the services who helped him. He is in the best possible care and he could not ask for anything more.”
