Alan Pardew blasts Christian Benteke for diving

7 Mar

Benteke’s goal was his first in nearly 12 hours.

“I think he touched me, otherwise I didn’t go down,” he said. “The referee’s given a penalty and so he thinks it’s the right decision.”

Palace’s loss, which same after Roberto Firmino pounced on goalkeeper Alex McCarthy’s mistake to equalise Joe Ledley’s goal, stretched the Eagles’ Premier League run without a win to 12 games.

McCarthy was playing his first game since September and Pardew said: “It affected us and made us nervous.

“We haven’t won for a while, and that compounded that.

“When you’re struggling for a win in the league, you have to react well to that. One or two didn’t, if I’m honest.”
