One of the favourites to take over at Everton if Roberto Martinez is axed, Frank de Boer, has left his role at Ajax.
De Boer had led the Dutch giants to four straight Eredivisie titles but lost out at the weekend as rivals PSV snatched the crown on a dramtic final day.
He has now stepped down from his role at the club and that will increase the speculation he is one his way to Everton to replace a beleaguered Martinez.
Everton have won once in their last 10 Premier League games and the writing maybe on the wall for the manager, whose side appear to have stopped responding to him.
De Boer has made it clear in the past he wants to manage in the Premier League at some point and may view Goodison Park as the perfect setting.
