Crystal Palace face a battle with Middlesbrough to sign Fiorentina striker Khouma Babacar after his agent jetted in for talks.
The Eagles are stepping up their attempts to sign Liverpool striker Christian Benteke, but they are also in the hunt for Babacar, who looks to be leaving Serie A.
The 23-year-old is hardly prolific, scoring just seven goals last season, but he has blistering pace and Eagles boss Alan Pardew is keen to do a deal.
Palace will not have it all their own way though as reports in Italy have suggested that newly promoted Middlesbrough are also keen to do a deal.
It has also been suggested the player’s agent Patrick Bastianelli is due to land in England any day now with a view to holding talks with both clubs.
Palace have been tracking Babacar since January and hope to finally wrap up a deal sooner rather than later.
