Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama to beef up his midfield, if he remains in charge at the club.
The Gunners boss has identified Saints’ Kenyan international as the man to be his enforcer in a revamped engine room that will see veterans like Mikel Arteta and Tomas Rosicky moved on.
Wanyama has been waiting for a signal from Arsenal as he runs his contract at St Mary’s down to put himself in the best possible bargaining position this summer.
Although he will have one year left on his deal, Southampton are already scouting for his replacement and will listen to offers in the region of £15million.
However, the move could be thrown into doubt if Arsenal decide to end their 20-year association with Wenger and look for a new manager.
